Every TopSwap member proves they live in the community. It's how we keep out spam, scams, and strangers.
On other marketplaces, anyone can create an account — bots, scammers, people three states away. TopSwap is different. When you buy or sell here, you know the other person is your neighbor. They live in your zip code, and they've proved it.
Verification happens once per community. After that, you have full access to browse, list items, message sellers, express interest, and participate in yard sales.

Scan your driver's license or state ID using Stripe Identity. We confirm your name and address match, then you're verified instantly.
Best for: People who want to start buying and selling right now.
No. Your verified home address is never shown to other members. Only your name appears on your profile. When you sell an item, you can set a separate pickup address to keep your home private.
Postcards typically arrive within 3-5 business days. If it's been more than 7 days, you can request a new one from the verification page, or switch to instant ID verification instead.
Currently, address changes require contacting support. We're working on a self-service flow for address updates.
The $2 fee covers the cost of Stripe Identity's ID verification service. We don't mark it up — it's passed through at cost. The postcard option is always free.
Yes — each community is tied to a zip code, so you verify once per community you join. If you live in a zip code that borders two communities, you can verify in both.
Stripe processes your ID verification. TopSwap never sees or stores your ID photo. Stripe retains data per their privacy policy and deletes it after the verification window. We only receive a yes/no confirmation and the verified address.
Verification takes less than a minute to start. Your postcard is on its way before you finish your first cup of coffee.
